Learners Permits Questions

Learners permits are issued to successful candidates who have written the K53 learners test at a traffic licensing department. The test which is either a written one or completed on a computer, takes approximately one hour. Learners permits test questions cover the three areas of driver competence which include rules of the road, traffic signs and signals and vehicle controls.

Learners Permits - Rules of the Road

The rules of the road are there to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and stipulate rules such as:
·         Overtaking
·         Right of way
·         Driving signals
·         Parking
·         Speed limits

Learners Permits - Road Signs, Signals and Markings

Road signs, traffic signals and road markings help to regulate an orderly traffic flow. They provide all the necessary information to road users, warn of hazardous conditions and give direction indicators of routes and destinations.
These can be:
mounted on a roadside pole or overhead structure
      painted on the road surface
signals given by lights or people

Regulatory Signs

A regulatory road traffic sign must be obeyed at all times, it may be a stop sign, speed limit sign, yield sign or traffic light. These are used to ensure road safety and efficient and orderly traffic flow.

Warning Signs

Warning signs indicate potential hazard ahead and should be responded to by a decrease in speed and extra caution by road users. A warning sign could be a hazard sign indicating wild animals on the road, a railway crossing, a sharp bend in road or a no-through road.

Guidance Signs

Guidance signs help with navigation and may also indicate tourist places of interest, route markers and local direction signs.

Temporary Signs

Temporary signs are usually yellow background with black signage or writing. These signs are to be obeyed and have priority over permanent signs. They may indicate road construction in progress or a temporary road closure.

Road Markings

Road marking are painted on the road surface in white, yellow or red, they may indicate no overtaking or no stopping.

Learners Permits – Vehicle Controls

For this section of the learners permits tests you need to know the correct name and function of the various vehicle controls, this includes mirrors, clutch, brake and accelerator pedals, gear lever and indicator stalk.
Practice for your learners permits test by completing past tests and become familiar with the rules of the road, know how to react when you see road signs, signals and markings and the purpose and names of the various vehicle controls.
